Amazon has found itself trying to suppress a popular LGBTQA+ author with a conservative fan base. Matt Walsh, the host of The Matt Walsh Show and the best-selling LGBTQA+ author on Amazon, currently has two books called Johnny the Walrus– a bestseller– and the highly anticipated What is a Woman?. Currently, Johnny the Walrus is the best-selling fictional book on Amazon. You can also buy the book at The Daily Wire.

At this moment, Amazon is trying to do something to counter Matt Walsh’s book. Libs of TikTok brought attention to an Amazon meeting calling Johnny the Walrus problematic. Amazon already would Temporarily remove Walsh’s book in December of 2021, when it was the best selling children’s LGBTQA+ book. They changed the book’s tag for children to politics and social science. Now Johnny the Walrus is once again a best selling fictional book on Amazon. At the company, Amazon has adults who are “traumatized” as trans-individuals are being compared to becoming a walrus in a kids book. Other companies like Yahoo are name calling Matt Walsh transphobic.

The book is about a little boy named Johnny with a big imagination. One day he believed he was a walrus. His mother gets confused about what to do with her new walrus son. Without spoiling the rest of the book, Johnny and his mother explore the realities of becoming a walrus.

The book is political, holds underlying trans-skeptical messaging, and brings a clear message to confused parents: do not feed into it, but rather accept reality.  Conservatives see transgenderism pushing too far and are finally pushing back. Despite what some critics say, the book isn’t a manual on how to bully transgender individuals. Instead, the book is meant to counter this cultural tide.

I think it’s a fun book. It gives a message to parents that goes over children’s heads. I think it’s especially funny that Walsh self-inserts himself within the story to be the hero. On a more unsettling note— one of the pages that depicts a surgeon holding a saw in the book is creepy, and I’m surprised it was included, but it gives children a sense of the reality of making life-altering decisions. I believe that the fact this is a best seller is a good reflection of the public’s opinion on transgenderism. Society believes that transgenderism has gone overboard and wants to stop children from being engulfed in this ideology. We can see that Texas is following this conservative belief as it has made transgender surgeries for children equivalent to child abuse.

You might be wondering why this, despite the new developments, months old controversy surrounding a children’s book is important. The reason why I write about it is that it shows the willingness of and pressure on companies to censor ideas that they don’t agree with and think are harmful. The Horn has recently written about alternatives to liberal dominated tech companies, and I think that this saga is an important reason why developing alternatives to large woke corporations is so important.
