AUSTIN, TX – on Aug. 7, 2023, grassroots activist David Lowe announced in a press release to The Texas Horn he will be running for Texas House District 91, setting up a potential rematch with incumbent representative Stephanie Klick (R-Fort Worth). Klick was first elected in 2012 and served as the Chair of the Public Health Committee during the 88th and 87th Legislative Sessions.
Lowe previously challenged Representative Klick during the 2022 Republican Primary, coming in second place during the March 2022 primary election. During the primary, Lowe garnered 39% of the vote while Representative Klick earned 49% of the vote.
Since neither candidate received more than 50% of the vote, the two candidates were pushed into a runoff election that May. During the runoff, Representative Klick prevailed over Lowe with 54.3% to Lowe’s 45.7%.
In his announcement, Lowe stated, “The need for a bulldog in the legislature, who is willing to take on some of the most powerful politicians has never been greater.”
“I cannot sit on the sidelines,” Lowe said, “and continue to watch Stephanie Klick continue to kill Republican Party supported legislation and lie to her constituents about both her successes and failures.”
Lowe argues the legislature failed in passing “conservative priorities,” passed “a barrage of anti-conservative bills,” and “illegally impeached” Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
The Texas Horn reached out to Representative Klick for comment but did not receive a response. We will update the article accordingly.
The 2024 Primary election is currently scheduled for March 5, 2024.
