When the Texas House voted unanimously to expel State Representative Bryan Slaton, it left the citizens of Texas House District 2 (HD 2) unrepresented in the State Legislature. Now, Governor Abbott has called for a special election to take place to fill the void left by Slaton’s departure. Doug Roszhart is one of the candidates running to fill that void.
Roszhart is a retired engineer and former city councilman from Greenville, Texas, where he currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the Hunt County Republican Club. He is married to his wife Carol. They have three children and five grandchildren.
In our discussion with Roszhart, we discussed, among other things, Roszhart’s support for school choice legislation and Education Savings Accounts, his support of the vote to impeach Ken Paxton in the House, and what the voters of HD 2 can expect from Roszhart when it comes to Speaker Dade Phelan.
Roszhart is one of seven, current, candidates in the race for HD 2. The filing deadline for the race is September 6, 2023. Roszhart joins Brent Money, Jill Dutton, Heath Hyde, Kenneth Neal Barker, and Krista Schild as the Republicans in the race. Kristen Washington is the lone Democrat in the race.
Early voting begins on October 23, 2023. Election day is November 7, 2023.
