In March 2023, the Texas GOP voted 57-5 to censure Texas Congressman Tony Gonzales, who represents Texas Congressional District 23.
The censure resolution cites, among other things, Gonzales’s support for the “Respect for Marriage Act,” which repealed the “Defense of Marriage Act,” and the “Bipartisan Safer Communities Act,” which was passed in the aftermath of the Uvalde Shooting, as reasons for Gonzales’s censure.
Gonzales, who was first elected in 2020, currently faces three primary challengers. Julie Clark is one of those challengers.
Clark is a small business owner and the Medina County GOP Chair. She lives in Yancey, Texas with her husband Brian. They have three kids.
In our discussion with Clark, we discussed a federal ban on abortion, the crisis affecting the US-Mexico border, and the possibility of abolishing the FBI.
Clark is one of four Republicans, currently, running to represent Texas Congressional District 23. She joins Congressman Tony Gonzales, Victor Avila, and Brandon Herrera.
The filing deadline is December 11, 2023, and the primary election is on March 5, 2024.
